I get it... sometimes it can be hard to find time for self care, but it doesn't always have to involve booking a spa day. In this post I wanted to give some simple and easy ways to include some self care rituals into your everyday routine!
Meditation minutes
Meditation can seem quite daunting to some, the idea of sitting and trying to think of nothing can sound super difficult and maybe not that appealing to some people! I think a great way to reframe mediation is to think of it as time to slow down and be the observer of our minds. The more we practice this slowing down and observing without judgment the easier it will become. We will also find space for our minds and bodies to relax.
You dont have to carve out an hour of your day for this... taking a couple of minutes to start with is plenty. Sit or stand, close your eyes and just observe. Observe the breath, the sensations in the body and your thoughts passing through your mindspace. Practice for a couple of minutes and see how you get on, trying to incorporate this a few times a week is a great place to start and then maybe build on it! Using breathwork or a meditation app is another way you could start on your meditation journey.
Night time routine
Doing self care before bed is a good way to wind down and keep away from the technology! Slowing down and being mindful in the evening can really help our minds and bodies to chill, therefore promoting better sleep as well! Here are a few mini relaxing moments you could include in your night time routine...
Taking a hot bath or shower using your favourite products, applying skincare and giving youself a 'mini facial', massaging ourselves with aromatherapy body oils or facial oils, listening to a podcast or relaxing music, doing some yoga poses or stretches in bed or in your bedroom, writing down/thinking 3 good things that happened to you that day, reading a book instead of scrolling on your phone!
Move your body
It is not only benefical for our physcial bodies to move and exercise, it's also beneficial for our minds. Everyones idea of moving or exercising is different, we shouldn't compare. Maybe you can find time for a run or a walk in nature. Maybe working out at the gym or going to a class is what you like to do! Maybe putting on a yoga/fitness youtube video or blasting your music and having a dance round the house is how you like to get moving. As long as your finding some time to do so, could be 10 mins... could be 2 hours, it doesnt matter. Just get moving!
Respect the space around you
Keeping our rooms and houses tidy is a definitely form of self care! Sometimes life can be overwhelming and things can get on top of us so its not sustainable to think our space is always going to be perfect and tidy. But studies show that tidy space = calm mind. Taking some time to put on clean sheets and make the bed or put away that washing instead of leaving it on the floor will leave us feeling calmer and more acomplished.
Treat future you
Scheduling things you enjoy doing in your diary in advance is a way of looking out for future you. This will look different for everyone depending on what brings you joy!
Maybe its finding time to bake, getting a massage, going to the cinema, going out for food, getting outside in nature. The key here is to schedule ahead and commit to keeping that time free for you!
Hopefully this has been an interesting read and given you some ideas that can be implemented into your life! I'm going to link some resources/pages/products that might be useful to start your self care journey... if you have any questions please get in touch!
